55. Mr. Ian Gilmonrasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in view of the second recent case of fowl plague in Norfolk, what precautions he is taking to prevent further outbreaks.
§ Mr. Scott-HopkinsAll infected birds and birds considered to be at risk have been slaughtered and strict bans have been imposed on the movement of personnel, crates, lorries, etc., from the infected premises to other poultry establishments.
We have traced the movement from the infected premises, of workers, stock and equipment capable of spreading infection so that any premises that might have been exposed to infection in this 5W way could be located, placed under restriction, and kept under observation. All poultry within half a mile of the infected places have been placed under restriction and subjected to a special examination, and so have all poultry owned by the breeder whose flocks were affected by the disease. The infected premises and equipment have been disinfected and the movement restrictions will not be lifted until we are satisfied that no further danger is threatened from these contacts.
