HC Deb 15 July 1963 vol 681 c4W
52. Mr. Donnelly

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, if he will make a statement regarding the Pembrokeshire early potato crop.

Mr. Soames

The season is exceptionally late because ground conditions in the early part of year delayed planting. About 50 per cent. of the acreage of first earlies in Pembrokeshire has now been lifted, whereas in normal circumstances the first early crop would have been cleared by now. Yields are good, but prices are low due to the lateness of the crop and competition from supplies from other parts of the country.
