HC Deb 04 February 1963 vol 671 cc9-10W
73. Mr Driberg

asked the Lord Privy Seal what representations were made recently by the Foreign Office to the Editor of Tribune at the request of the Chinese Government.

Mr. P. Thomas

No "representations" were made. The Chinese chargé d'Affaires complained formally to the Foreign Office about a certain publication inTribune. It was explained that Her Majesty's Government exercise no control over the Press in this country. The Editors of Tribune were however informed of the complaint and of the request for publication of a statement from the Chinese chargé d'Affaires.
