§ 56. 56. Sir W. Teelingasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of the burden placed on ratepayers when local police authorities are required to prosecute incases involving nation-wide criminal activities, he will introduce legislation requiring the costs of such cases to be met out of the Exchequer.
§ Mr. BrookeWhile I appreciate that on occasion the costs of a particular prosecution may bear heavily on the local authority, I am not at present persuaded that the law requires amendment.
