§ 57. Mr. Marshasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what action he intends to take on the advice of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that, because of the steady increase in the use of firearms in each of the last three years, the law relating to the possession of firearms without a certificate should be reviewed and the penalties increased.
§ Mr. BrookeA review of this and related matters by chief officers of police is in progress. When it is completed, I will decide what action, if any, is required.
§ 58. Mr. Marshasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will state the number of cases in the United Kingdom in each of the last three years where criminals are known to have carried firearms.
§ Mr. BrookeNo figures in this form are at present available for the United Kingdom. I feel sure that the committee which I set up to consider the criminal statistics will consider this point.
