HC Deb 04 December 1963 vol 685 cc183-4W
86. Mr. Sorensen

asked the Minister of Transport what consultations he has had with car manufacturers with a view to taking the necessary steps to ensure that mass-produced cars either imported or made in this country shall not exceed a maximum length of ten feet other than for export or re-export and thus contribute in some measure to the easing of parking and similar problems.

Mr. Marples

None. Any advantages to be derived from a curtailment of the length of cars in this country would have to be measured against its effects on the competitiveness of our motor industry in the export market, since different models would have to be made for home and abroad.
