Mr. Malcolm MacMillanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will convene and participate in an early conference of Highland local authorities and other public bodies concerned to discuss the new problems arising 163W from the proposed closing of rail passenger services affecting the Western Highlands and Islands.
§ Mr. LeburnMy right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport has invited the Scottish Local Authority Associations to consider and comment upon the Beeching proposals and it would be better to wait until their views are known before deciding whether it would be appropriate to have a meeting of this kind.
