Revenue expenditure (col. 2) up to 1958–59 is not wholly comparable with expenditure from 1959–60 onwards, because of differences in the basis of inter-authority payments and in adjustments for certain services, the cost of which is pooled among all authorities. 2. Capital expenditure on school building (col. 3) is met mainly by loan. 3. Column 3 excludes the cost of land, fees, furniture and equipment. 4. School places (cols. 4 and 5) are given for the year when the building was taken into use: they are not therefore directly related to the expenditure figures.
