HC Deb 28 November 1962 vol 668 c50W
Mr. Grant-Ferris

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in view of the imminence of the appointed day for the coming into being of the British Waterways Board, he will now announce the name of the chairman and members thereof.

Mr. Marples

I propose to appoint Mr. F. D. Arney, C.B.E., formerly General Manager of the Port of Bristol Authority, to be part-time Chairman of the British Waterways Board for a period of three years.

After consultation with Mr. Arney I propose to appoint Sir John Hawton, formerly Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, to be full time Vice Chairman. Sir John Hawton's appointment will be for five years.

I hope to make further appointments shortly.
