§ 27. Mr. Hiltonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in view of his responsibilities for health and safety on farms and of the increased number of deaths caused by tractors overturning, what consultations he has had with tractor manufacturers and the National Institute of Agricultural Engineering on this matter.
§ Mr. SoamesThe number of deaths from tractors overturning fell by 10 to 36 in the year that ended on 30th September. This is a welcome change for the better. The consultations which my Department is having with the tractor 85W manufacturers and the National Institute of Agricultural Engineering on this problem as a whole are at the moment particularly concerned with the design and testing of safety cabs, which seem a promising method of reducing deaths from tractors overturning.
