HC Deb 14 November 1962 vol 667 cc52-3W
64. Mr. G. Thomas

asked the Minister of Transport whether his attention has been drawn to the many accidents that have occurred in Western Avenue, Cardiff; and whether he will now authorise a 30 m.p.h. speed restriction on this road.

Mr. Marples

The number of accidents, though regrettable, is not unusually high in view of the large volume of traffic on this road. I imposed a 40 m.p.h. speed limit there in August, 1961, and I still consider that limit appropriate. In the year since it was imposed the number of accidents fell by 26 per cent., even though the traffic has increased.
