HC Deb 13 November 1962 vol 667 c23W
42. Mr. Swingler

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer in view of the high rate of interest charges which frustrates the necessary expansion of productive industry and social services alike, if he will now take steps to reduce interest rates.

Mr. Barber

There has been a substantial fall in interest rates over the last fifteen months which the Government have welcomed. I do not think that at their present level interest rates are having the effects suggested by the hon. Member.
