HC Deb 12 November 1962 vol 667 cc5-6W
52. Mr. Hiley

asked the Minister of Health why he rejected the recommendation of the Leeds Regional Hospital Board with regard to the building of a general hospital at Menston in place of the hospitals and clinics at Otley, Ilkley, Horsforth and Middleton which will be ultimately closed.

53. Sir M. Stoddart-Scott

asked the Minister of Health if he is aware of the disadvantages and concern caused to the inhabitants of Airedale and Wharfedale by the closing of hospitals and maternity homes in Horsforth, Ilkley, Otley and Middleton; and if he will again consider the recommendation of the Leeds Regional Hospital Board that a general hospital should be built at Menston in Wharfedale.

Mr. Braine

Developments at Leeds and Bradford are expected to make the necessary provision eventually. Mean- while there will be major improvements at Otley. My right hon. Friend is aware that local concern has been expressed and he will take it into consideration with the Board.
