HC Deb 26 March 1962 vol 656 c81W
49. Mr. Hunter

asked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance what was the number of persons in receipt of retirement pensions receiving supplementary allowances from the National Assistance Board at the latest convenient date; and what was the comparable figure for the same date in 1961.

Mr. Boyd-Carpenter

The latest figure available is for December, 1961. As I told the hon. Member for Kirkcaldy Burghs (Mr. Gourlay) on 19th February, that figure is 1,056,000. The figure for December, 1960, is not comparable as it includes some recipients of widow's benefit. But the comparable figure for March, 1961, is 1,079,000.
