HC Deb 26 March 1962 vol 656 c79W
32. Mr. C. Johnson

asked the Lord Privy Seal what action he is taking in respect of Mr. Derek Gauden, a British subject, who is being detained at Makala in the Congo without any charge being brought against him; and when he expects to secure his release.

Mr. P. Thomas

Her Majesty's Consul at Leopoldville has been persistently pressing for action to be taken on Mr. Gauden's file, and on 23rd March the Minister of the Interior signed an authority for his repatriation to be proceeded with. I understand that he left Leopoldville last night and arrived in the United Kingdom this morning.
