HC Deb 04 July 1962 vol 662 c39W
6. Mr. Reynolds

asked the Minister of Transport what is his policy regarding a European Highway Code to codify detailed traffic rules, as agreed at the European Road Safety Conference.

Mr. Marples

Though it might not be practicable for the United Kingdom to change all its rules to continental practice, a unified code of traffic rules would have advantages. I am, therefore, seeking to arrange for the United Kingdom to be associated with the work of the Restricted Group of Experts constituted under the European Conference of Ministers of Transport who are preparing the European Highway Code.
