HC Deb 27 February 1962 vol 654 c131W
95. Mr. H. Wilson

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will state his policy with regard to the control of the export of tear gas and equipment for the manufacture of tear gas; and if he will state the total quantities exported from the United Kingdom, and the quantities supplied to the Republic of South Africa, respectively, in 1960 and 1961.

Mr. N. Macpherson

The export of tear gas is controlled to all destinations: applications to export are considered on their merits. No licence is required for the export of manufacturing equipment which, I am advised, is indistinguishable from chemical plant with other uses. The answer to the second part of the Question is No.
