HC Deb 26 February 1962 vol 654 cc97-8W
54. Sir W. Teeling

asked the Lord Privy Seal what steps he is taking to protect the interests of British shareholders in the Anglo-Argentine Tramways, in view of the forthcoming sale of their former assets by the Argentine Government by public tender to private enterprise.

Mr. Heath

Her Majesty's Government have always taken a close interest in the claim for compensation by the Anglo-Argentine Tramways Company Limited against the Argentine Government. They have on many occasions made it clear to the Argentine Government their view that an early and equitable settlement of this claim would help to create the best atmosphere for the development of Anglo-Argentine industrial and commercial co-operation. The recent decision of the Argentine Government to transfer the assets of the Buenos Aires Transport undertaking to private enterprise should not affect Anglo-Argentine Tramways' claim; Her Majesty's Government are, however, closely following these developments.
