§ 35. Mr. G. Thomasasked the Minister of Education what is the number of local authorities who, for economy reasons, have reduced their estimate of teachers required for 1962–63; and whether he will make a statement on the effect of the block grant payment system on the employment of teachers.
§ Sir D. EcclesI know of none. The number of teachers to be employed by each authority is determined mainly by the quota and has not in my view been affected by the general grant system.
