HC Deb 22 February 1962 vol 654 c66W
Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Education if he is aware of the heavy burden which the cost of education places upon local authorities; and if he will take steps to make this a national rather than a local charge.

Sir D. Eccles

I do not favour the central control of education implied by the hon. Member's proposals, and I believe local authorities value their responsibilities in this field and recognise that it is right they should bear their share of the cost.
