HC Deb 21 February 1962 vol 654 cc46-7W
46. Mr. Awbery

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware of the dirty, dangerous and obnoxious cargoes which dock workers have to handle, and that in many port areas there are no facilities for the workmen to wash and cleanse themselves after handling these commodities; and if he will introduce legislation to make it compulsory for such facilities to be provided.

Mr. Hare

Discussions about the improvement of washing facilities in the docks are at present being held between the National Joint Council for the Port Transport Industry, the Dock and Harbour Authorities Association, the British Transport Commission and the National Dock Labour Board. I am keeping in touch with these discussions.
