89. Mr. W. R. Williams

asked the Postmaster-General what number of telephones and what number of exchange lines he estimates will be in service in the United Kingdom on 31st March, 1962; and what percentage increases these represent in each case over the figure for 31st March, 1961.

Mr. Bevins

On 31st March, 1962, about 8,640,000 telephones and 5,060,000 exchange lines will be in service, representing increases of 4.3 per cent. and 3.3 per cent. respectively.
