Mr. G. Roberts

asked the President of the Board of Trade how many applications have so far been received for assistance under the Local Employment Act, 1960, from Caernarvonshire; and how many have been granted, rejected and are still under consideration.

Eleven applications for assistance under the Local Employment Act have been received for projects in Caernarvonshire; in three of these cases assistance has bene offered, five have been rejected, and three are still under consideration.

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he will make a statement indicating the progress made in attracting and establishing new industries in Caernarvonshire.

Since the Local Employment Act came into force about 350 jobs have been provided in Caernarvonshire by firms establishing themselves or expanding there, and there are about 1,000 further jobs in prospect. In addition other firms have expressed an interest in setting up in the county but have not yet reached a decision to do so.
