HC Deb 15 February 1962 vol 653 c181W
Mr. Curran

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the approximate yearly cost of making an all-round 5 per cent. increase in the pensions now paid to retired public servants in this country, including those who were employed by local authorities, and other public bodies as well as by the central Government; and if he will give separate details for each category.

Sir E. Boyle

About £10 million for the public services within the scope of the Pensions (Increase) Acts and the Armed Forces, divided as follows:—

£m.
Civil Service 2.6
Teachers 1.6
Local Government 1.2
National Health Service 0.4
Police 1.1
Fire Services 0.1
Armed Forces 2.4
Others 0.6
Total 10.0

The estimates for pensions not paid centrally—local government, police and fire services—are approximate.
