HC Deb 21 December 1962 vol 669 cc263-4W
Mr. Stratton Mills

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was the per capita expenditure on public works by the Government and local authorities in each of the last 12 years in Northern Ireland, Scotland, England Wales, and Development Act areas, respectively.

Mr. du Cann

I regret that the information is not available in the detail requested by my hon. Friend. In particular, complete figures for Wales and the development districts cannot be separately identified. The following table shows Government and local authority capital expenditure per head in the years 1950 to 1961 in Northern Ireland, Scotland and England and Wales. An amount, varying from year to year, of between 5 per cent. and 20 per cent. of the total expenditure cannot be allocated by country. It has been assumed that this expenditure was at the same per capita rate in each country.
