HC Deb 21 December 1962 vol 669 c263W
Mr. Houghton

asked the Secretary to the Treasury if he will make a statement on road travel expenses for Members.

Mr. du Cann

To enable Members to recoup the cost of petrol used where they travel by the fastest route, e.g. by motorways or bypasses, instead of by the shortest mileage, it has been decided to allow additional mileage up to a maximum of 25 per cent. over the standard shortest route. This is, of course, subject to the maximum payment of the normal first class single rail fare for the direct journey.

Claims should be made to the Fees Office for any such additions for journeys made after today.
