HC Deb 21 December 1962 vol 669 cc274-5W
Mr. Russell

asked the Minister of Public Building and Works (1) if he will open Queen's Gate, Kensington Gardens, to motor traffic from Kensington Road intending to travel northwards along The Ring, so that it can enter Hyde Park at the junction North of Alexandra Gate and turn left thus relieving some of the congestion at the junction in Kensington Road outside Alexandra Gate;

(2) if he will have a few feet taken off the pavement on the East side of The Ring, Hyde Park, London, W.1, just North of its junction with the South Carriage Road at Alexandra Gate, so as to allow room for three lanes of traffic to be properly marked in the roadway, in conformity with the Government's normal practice in such matters.

Mr. Sharples

We have recently agreed that certain right hand turns in this area should be banned so as to facilitate the flow of traffic and we would prefer to await the outcome of this experiment before considering other proposals, particularly any which would involve some loss of Park amenity.
