§ 78. Mr. Haleasked the Minister of Pensions and National Insurance whether he is aware that Mrs. Harriet Mills, of Oldham, has been refused a widow's industrial insurance allowance on the ground that her husband died of bronchitis and not byssinosis, has been refused a pre-1948 widow's pension on the ground that she subsequently remarried and became widowed a second time, and has been refused a post-1948 widow's pension on the ground of excessive earnings; and, in view of the fact that she is at present ill and absent from work, whether he will reconsider her case.
§ Mr. N. MacphersonI am aware of the decisions of the statutory authorities who have dealt with Mrs. Mills' various claims for benefit. As regards her title to widow's benefits under the National Insurance scheme, I understand that she was awarded widow's allowance followed by a widow's pension at the full rate. The latter is subject to adjustment for earnings, but no such adjustment is currently being made.
