HC Deb 19 December 1962 vol 669 cc181-2W
42. Mr. Prentice

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether Her Majesty's Government intend to make further purchases of United Nations Bonds; and what consultations are being held with other Governments with a view to relieving the financial difficulties of the United Nations.

Mr. Godber

Her Majesty's Government have no plans at present for further purchases of United Nations Bonds. The major reason for the financial difficulties of the United Nations is the refusal of certain member States to pay their assessed contributions to certain United Nations operations.

Her Majesty's Government supported the decision taken in the Budgetary Committee on 12th December to endorse the important Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice on this matter. I hope that this will lead to a better response in future.
