HC Deb 19 December 1962 vol 669 cc202-4W
Mr. Rankin

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he expects Hunterston nuclear power station to be completed; whether any estimate has yet been agreed for the final cost; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Noble

I am informed by the South of Scotland Electricity Board that the installation of the graphite blocks in Reactor No. 1 is proceeding ahead of the revised schedule agreed in September, 1961, and that last weekend the pressure vessel in Reactor No. 2 was tested successfully about a month ahead of the schedule. The Board expect the first reactor to be on full power by the middle of 1964 and the second by the end of that year.

The negotiations about the contract between the Board and the General Elec- tric Company have made progress but no estimate of the final cost has yet been agreed.
