§ 63. Mr. G. Thomasasked the Minister of Education what the rate of wastage was among students taking the course for a Diploma in Technology in colleges of advanced technology in the 97W years 1959, 1960 and 1961, respectively; and whether he will make a statement on the causes of this wastage.
§ Mr. ChatawayThe only figures available relate to 1960–61. They suggest that 39 per cent. of the students who had entered these courses did not gain a Diploma in Technology. About two-thirds of those who left did so during the first and second years and many of them transferred to other courses of lower standard. The figures require careful investigation before any interpretation is placed upon them, and no doubt the National Council for Technological Awards will be considering this.
