Dame Irene Wardasked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware of the anxiety experienced by mothers from Percy Main and Howdon resulting from the placing of the traffic lights control box at the junction of Station Road and Wallsend Road; and if he will have the position re-examined, in the light of present traffic conditions at this junction, with a view to greater safety.
§ Mr. MarplesI have received no complaints about this. It is a difficult site for traffic signals and the control box has been placed in the best position available. I have asked my Divisional Road Engineer to see what can be done to make things easier for pedestrians.
