asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) how many cases of swine fever have been reported in the North Riding of Yorkshire and Durham since 1st January 1962; and haw many pigs have been slaughtered;

(2) how many cases of swine fever have been reported in England and Wales since 1st January, 1962; and how many pigs have been slaughtered.

Between 1st January and 30th November, 1962, 1,521 cases of swine fever were confirmed in England and Wales, of which 52 were in the North Riding of Yorkshire and 10 in Co. Durham. The number of pigs slaughtered by the Ministry for diagnostic purposes in England and Wales between the same dates was 280, 4 of these being in the North Riding and 1 in Co. Durham.
