HC Deb 12 December 1962 vol 669 cc70-1W
81. Mr. Wainwright

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what progress has been made in the development of fish farms in this country; and what are his plans for the future development of such farms.

Mr. Scott-Hopkins

None. Presumably the hon. Member has my Laboratory's experiments in rearing plaice from the egg stage in mind. It has been proved that it is possible to hatch plaice artificially. We have yet to prove that small fish so reared can survive in the sea in sufficient numbers to make any difference to commercial catches.
