HC Deb 05 December 1962 vol 668 cc189-90W
Sir W. Bromley-Davenport

asked the Minister of Labour whether he will institute an immediate inquiry into the trade dispute arising from unofficial strikes causing hold-ups in industry to building and work in Ford factories in the United Kingdom.

Sir H. Oakshott

asked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the trade disputes arising from strikes which have taken place on major sites in the construction industry, culminating in the recent troubles on Merseyside, which have hampered the provision of additional employment, what action he will take to deal with this problem.

Mr. Hare

The delays which have occurred on the Ford sites are, as the hon. Member for Bebington (Sir H. Oakshott) suggests, typical of the situation at a number of major constructional sites in various parts of the country, and should I think be considered against that background rather than in isolation. I have had it in mind for some time past to hold discussions with representatives of the employers' organisation and trade unions concerned with the construction industry to look into the problems which arise on these large sites. I have now arranged to meet representatives of the principal employers' associations concerned on 10th December and of the unions on 17th December.
