HC Deb 04 December 1962 vol 668 cc156-7W
76. Sir M. Stoddart-Scott

asked the Postmaster-General if he will state the number of people in the City of Ripon who have applied for telephones; how many will be put on the telephone in 1963, 1964, and 1965; and when the present demand for telephones in Ripon will be satisfied.

Mr. Bevins

At the end of October there were 44 applications on the waiting list because of a shortage of lines and a further 27 under inquiry or in the course of being met. I expect to provide about 90 telephones in the City of Ripon in 1963. The number I should be able to provide in 1964 and 1965 will depend on the demand and the resources I shall have available, but might total about 250. I am sorry that some people at present waiting for telephones are unlikely to have them until new cables now being planned become available in 1965.
