Pannellasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many of the 136 persons originating from other parts of the Commonwealth who have been convicted since 1st July, 1962, for being in possession of drugs controlled under the Dangerous Drugs Act, 1951, were not liable to be deported under the Commonwealth Immigrants Act; and what was the reason for their immunity.
§ Mr. BrookeI do not have the detailed information in all cases, but it seems that about half of those concerned were not liable to be recommended for deportation because they had been resident in the United Kingdom for at least five166W years. In a few other cases, the offence had been committed before Part II of the Commonwealth Immigrants Act came into force, and on that account no recommendation for deportation could be made.
