§ Mr. Callaghanasked the President of the Board of Trade if he is aware of growing complaints about the poor quality of children's shoes; and what steps he is taking, by legislation or otherwise, to protect the consumer in this respect.
§ Mr. ErrollI am aware that there is disappointment at the inability of the industry to agree upon a new British standard for children's footwear, but I do not think that complaints have been growing or that standards can be imposed by legislation. In my opinion a sufficiently wide selection of children's shoes are now available on the market to afford buyers a reasonable choice of price and quality.
