HC Deb 19 April 1962 vol 658 cc107-8W
51. Sir B. Janner

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will suggest to the Commissioner of Police that when the subway under Theobalds Road is constructed he should bring back into use for traffic those portions of High Holborn and the streets merging into it which have now been either completely cut off from use by traffic, or which are barely used because of the existing temporary one-way street scheme.

Mr. Renton

I understand that no street in this area has been completely cut off from use by traffic, although some in the vicinity of High Holborn and Southampton Row are carrying less traffic than formerly. As explained in reply to a Question asked by the hon. Member on 4th March, the working of the present traffic routes is being watched by the Commissioner of Police, but the long-term traffic arrangements to be adopted following the completion of the works will be a matter for my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport.
