HC Deb 19 April 1962 vol 658 c97W
42. Mr. Peart

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what consultations he had with farm representatives on the revised standards for fat cattle grading.

Mr. Soames

The revised standards were discussed with representatives of the farming organisations both before and during the Annual Review.

Mr. Kimball

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will grant official recognition to the liaison officers appointed by the local branches of the National Farmers' Union to meet his Department's grading officers over disputed grading of fat cattle.

Mr. Soames

My Department's fat-stock officers are already in close touch with these liaison officers who perform a very valuable service in the markets, and they will certainly be glad to discuss any disputed grading with them. The final decision on the grading of any animal for subsidy purposes must, however, remain the responsibility of the fatstock officer.
