§ Mr. Dempseyasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will publish figures showing by what weekly amount it would be necessary to increase the pensions of retired police officers in Scotland in order to maintain their original purchasing power.
§ Mr. MaclayThe amount of a police pension depends on the pay and length of service of the officer concerned at the time of his retirement and on increases granted under the Pensions (Increase) Acts which themselves depend on the year of the retirement and other circumstances. It is, therefore, impracticable to state in general terms what further increases would be necessary to maintain the original purchasing power of such pensions.
