HL Deb 03 April 1962 vol 239 cc169-70WA
BARONESS WOOTTON OF ABINGER

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many medical practitioners (including, consultants) are known to have emigrated from the United Kingdom in the past three years, and how many are practising in this country either in private practice or under the National Health Service.

LORD NEWTON

I regret that the information asked for in the first part of the question is not available. On July 1, 1960, approximately 47,000 medical practitioners were practising under the National Health Service in the hospital and specialist and the general medical services in Great Britain. Many doctors included in these figures have some pri- vate practice. There are no figures for doctors wholly engaged in private practice.
