HC Deb 03 April 1962 vol 657 c30W
56. Mr. Lipton

asked the Minister of Works to what extent the existing structure is being preserved in the reconstruction of 1A Kensington Palace.

Lord John Hope

Some brick vaulting in the basement, plaster which has perished, and timbers affected by rot, are being removed. The rest of the structure, including external and internal brick walls, windows, roof, chimney stacks, and the Wren staircase, is being retained and made good where necessary.
