asked the Lord Privy Seal what recent information he has received through the United Nations concerning the presence of foreign mercenary soldiers in the Congolese Province of Katanga.

Estimates of the number of mercenaries still remaining in Katanga vary considerably. Members of the United Nations Secretariat have informally mentioned a figure as high as 250. Information available to Her Majesty's Consul in Elisabethville, however. indicates that the mercenaries do not total more than 70.
