§ 53. Mr. Swinglerasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government and Minister for Welsh Affairs if he will issue a directive to local authorities to the effect that where land and buildings are 94W purchased for the community's benefit they should not be resold to private individuals for the purpose of profit, contrary to the purposes for which he gave approval.
§ Mr. BrookeI have no power to issue such a directive, but in general local authorities have power to sell land and buildings only if these are surplus to the purposes for which they were acquired. My consent is required if they are to be sold at a price less than the best obtainable.
