asked the Minister of Transport whether he has any plans for the building of another bridge across the Tyne at Newcastle.

The only crossing contemplated in the immediate future is the Tyne Tunnel for which tenders have now been invited. In addition, the local authorities are considering a scheme for the replacement of Scotswood Bridge.
