HC Deb 02 March 1961 vol 635 cc144-5W
58. Mr. Grimond

asked the Lord Privy Seal, if he will make a statement on the recent proposals put by Her Majesty's Government to the Six.

Mr. Heath

At the Western European Union Ministerial Meeting in Paris on 27th February I gave Her Majesty's Government's view on Recommendation 53 of the Western European Union Assembly which deals first with the United Kingdom's relations with the European Economic Community; secondly, with the United Kingdom's relations with the European Coal and Steel Community and Euratom; and thirdly, with the question of political consultation between heads of Governments. In doing so, I described the explorations of these matters which have been carried out by the United Kingdom with some of the other Governments present at the meeting, namely, the German, Italian and French, and gave an indication of some ways in which it might be possible for the United Kingdom to help towards a solution of these problems.
