§ 71. Commander Courtneyasked the Postmaster-General whether he will consider making a contribution towards the cost of installation of approved burglar alarm systems by sub-postmasters, who are also shopkeepers, in rural areas where the post office is combined with the village shop.
§ Miss PikeIn general, sub-postmasters are responsible for safeguarding their official cash and stock, and their emoluments are held to cover the expense involved. My right hon. Friend could not, therefore, justify general financial assistance on the lines envisaged by my hon. and gallant Friend. But we do provide some protective devices free for certain sub-post offices particularly in crime-prone areas. My right hon. Friend would be glad to look into any specific case which my hon. and gallant Friend may have in mind if he will send us the details.
