asked the Minister of Transport whether he is yet able to announce the extension of the rural clearway system, now in operation around London, to other parts of the country.

Mr. Marples

I intend to designate a further 490 miles of clearways this summer. My proposals have just been advertised, and I hope to bring the clearways into operation on 1st August.

57. Mr. Fisher

asked the Minister of Transport what mileage of clearways has been introduced in the London traffic area.

Mr. Marples

Sixty-four miles so far. I intend to add a further thirty-one miles in August.
