HC Deb 30 January 1961 vol 633 c67W
Mr. Tilney

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether the United Nations representatives have made clear to the voters in the South Cameroons the advantages and disadvantages of belonging to the sterling area or to the common market.

Mr. Ormsby Gore:

No. It is not the function of the United Nations to make clear to the voters in the Southern Cameroons the advantages and disadvantages of the two choices open to them in the plebiscite. That is the jab of the political parties in the territory.

Mr. Tilney

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether the United Nations Organisation has expressed a view as to what action they will take should a majority of the electorate in the Southern Cameroons abstain or spoil their voting papers in the forthcoming plebiscite.

Mr. Ormsby Gore:

No.
